OSRAM displays futuristic OLED digital home applications at CEDIA electronic lifestyle expo

Unique hi-tech residential applications highlight booth

Visitors to the OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Booth #215 at the CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles EXPO in Las Vegas, April 20-21, will be able to not only imagine, but actually experience what a home of the future could be like with several installations of its latest OLED products.

The OLED electronic home exhibit will feature home furnishings with embedded OLED displays streaming wireless live information content, a fish tank with a submerged OLED, as well as some hanging decorative and visual arts pieces, all containing the latest OLED technology from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors.

CEDIA`s Electronic Lifestyles EXPO is dedicated to bringing together those in the residential design/building process: architects, builders, interior designers and residential electronic systems contractors.

"Increases in display size and lifetime of our OLED products are enabling us to address a much broader market in a wide range of consumer applications, including those related to content in home furnishings," John Cramer, product marketing manager, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc., said. "The superior viewing angles of OLEDs offer a better solution than the electronic components currently being used, as well as demonstrate the possibilities for the future in the home environment. Even the more decorative elements in the booth are enabled and enhanced by OLED technology," he added.

The OSRAM exhibit at the CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Expo will demonstrate the applications for OLED technology in the digital home of tomorrow. The living room furnishings will feature OLED panels demonstrating wireless streaming information content; one for the TV Guide, another for stocks and the third for the most up-to-date weather reports. A recliner will contain an OLED touch panel controller in the armrest for ease of viewing and reach, demonstrating home audio, lighting and security controls at your fingertips. In addition, the date and time will be illuminated through a shaving mirror so there`s no excuse to be late for an appointment.

Products
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will debut several new Pictiva OLED products at the CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles EXPO including: The "Calgary" 2.7-inch 128x64 dot display, the "Miami" 5-inch 384x128 dot display, and the "Zurich" 6.5-inch 256x32 dot display.

All OSRAM`s new OLED products will feature an ultra-wide, unlimited viewing angle, rapid video response capabilities, longer life, and a thin profile to enable excellent readability and presentation of graphic and text images.

This product-line expansion exemplifies OSRAM`s dedication to provide the widest range of display solutions and strengthens the company`s leadership position in the small-medium size, graphic display industry.

About Pictiva

Demand for the displays is particularly high among cellular telephone manufacturers, but these displays can be used for a wide range of applications, including home electronics, personal communication, industrial appliances, medical and portable devices. End products that critically require temperature independent display legibility, such as medical and security equipment, as well as mining & industrial information displays, will find solutions within the Pictiva OLED portfolio.

OSRAM`s Pictiva products are amazingly versatile and are driven by standard IC-driver technology that supports both parallel and serial interfaces.
