PizzaKobra: Much more than a table lamp
Sleek design and new styling thanks to OSRAM LEDs
The light from the new dream lamp from iGuzzini seems to slither up to the objects it illuminates. Its shape is variable. The design comes from the creative genius of Ron Arad – the light comes from the creative might of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. Six high-power Golden DRAGON LEDs and lenses, unobtrusively incorporated in the front of the chrome-plated and extremely maneuverable metal “snake”, provide bright light wherever it is needed.
Amorphous, versatile and sinuous – the design is difficult to describe – sometimes a pizza, sometimes a cobra, sometimes a mushroom and sometimes a spiral. The table light is a synthesis of design, technology and materials in its purest expression.The chrome-plated snake is unexpectedly soft and can be bent in all directions to create countless shapes. The open design seems to know no bounds, just like the designer Ron Arad with his creative works.
New styling with new light sources
Arad has taken full advantage of the compact light emitting diodes. They are very much in evidence as functional elements but always hidden from view. This is only possible because even with a lens they are less than 1 cm high and have been integrated in the snake in such a way that they are almost invisible. Only their precisely defined light gives them away.
As far as their technical data is concerned, the six Golden DRAGON LEDs certainly have no reason to hide. They do not even need large external optics - their own 20° lens is sufficient to distribute the light perfectly.
With a power consumption of only 1 W, each of them achieves a luminance of up to 100 cd/W depending on the beam characteristics. This is the same level as halogen lamps, but with much greater efficiency. These light sources, which represent the link between what is feasible today and what will be possible tomorrow, are extremely economical with electrical energy.
All white tones and colors
PizzaKobra is just one of the many designs that are possible with the high-power light emitting diodes because there is great flexibility in the way the luminous area can be arranged. Small multiple light points provide the inspiration to create unusual designs.
In the PizzaKobra the Golden DRAGON LEDs provide a cold white light but any other white tone is possible, each strictly sorted by color group. This means that even if there are a large number of LEDs the light they produce is always uniform. And if the infinite possibilities that these light emitting diodes offer in white is not enough then you can always add color. Golden DRAGON LEDs with lenses are also available in red, yellow, blue and green.
