The illumination of the new concept car by General Motors Holden - the 'Torana' - made an unforgettable impression at the 2004 Australian Motor Show. The distinctive "Hot Pink" characteristic of the lighting was made possible by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' latest LED technology.

The Torana impressed the public with lighting modules based on OSRAM's new MULTILED, which is incorporated in exterior and interior lighting. It produces an overall lighting effect that enhanced the color and design of the vehicle.
Integrating OSRAM's red (625 nm), green (525 nm) and blue (470 nm) chips in one package, the 6-lead MULTILED offers the lowest thermal resistance in its product class and enables independent chip control for specific driver designs.

The high optical efficiency combined with a compact SMT package allowed Holden to implement special decorative lighting modules inside the head lamps - a completely unique feature which has not been introduced in cars before.
Optically innovative rear lamp includes decorative "hot pink" light which is also produced with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' LEDs.

"OSRAM's advanced lighting technology gives new meaning to color on demand for the automotive market" says Jeffrey Cheah, Marketing Director (Asia).
The linear shape day time running light (DRL) designed with OSRAM High-Power White LED in the Golden DRAGON series. Due to the compact size of the Golden DRAGON the DRL could be included in the head lamp module.
The white Golden DRAGON LEDs provide a concentrated light at 20 to 40 Lumens from an operating current of 350mA. Depending on the application and ambient conditions, this white SMT LED will last up to 50,000 hours therefore increasing the life of the entire lamp.

Holden Torana has successfully demonstrated advantages of the LED technology which gives car makers freedom to choose unique color and shape of the lighting modules and also provides lower power consumption while increasing reliability and life time.
