Holden show car features LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors
For each lighting task on a vehicle Osram Opto Semiconductors can offer the right LED light source, with everything from high-power LEDs to special designs.
Behind the somewhat surreal name of Efigy of FJ (EFIJY) there is a very real and sensational show car of retro design with lighting that is produced entirely with LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. For the second time, General Motors Holden Australia has turned to light emitting diodes from the Regensburg company - in this case it has taken its inspiration from the high-power OSTAR. This designer car will be turning heads at the Australian International Motor Show from October 14 to 23 in Sydney.
The objective of the EFIJY project was to develop a solution that took full advantage of new technologies while appealing to traditionalists with its legendary retro look. From the outside it harks back to the swept-back models of the 1950s, but inside it is packed with state-of-the-art technology. The lighting systems make use of the extensive product portfolio of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, with high-power LEDs such as OSTAR, medium power LEDs such as Power TOPLED and Advanced Power TOPLED and special designs such as the two-chip MULTILED.
The rear light clusters with the indicators, brake lights and tail lights are fitted with two-chip MULTILEDs in one package (3.5*2.8*1.9mm) which provide either red or amber light from the same are of the lamp according to their function. Red Power TOPLEDs are used for the third brake light presented in innovative circular shape.
The inside of the car is also packed with LEDs. White SIDELEDs are used for the switches, reading lights and footwell lights. White and red Power TOPLEDs offer helpful light around the gearstick. The show car demonstrates the enormous freedom of design that LEDs offer. What's more, these tiny light sources benefit from long life, low energy consumption and rapid response, which is a particularly useful for brake lights.
