Readers of the German magazine "Elektronik" chose the powerful lightsource out of 111 suggestions as winner in the category "optoelectronics". This is the third time for an OSRAM LED - a big success for the newest high efficient light source.

The OSTAR Lighting is the first coldwhite LED to achieve more than 1000 lumen. This means it is brighter than a 50 W halogen lamp, making it ideal for a wide range of applications in the general lighting sector. The enormous increase in brightness is the result of major improvements to the overall system of chip and package.

The high-flux LED is equipped with six closely packed 1 mm² high-power chips. This high chip packing density leads to a high luminance. What this means in actual practice is that a single OSTAR Lighting with a 38° reflector is all that is needed to illuminate a desk with more than 500 lux from a height of two meters. OSTAR is also settings new standards in efficiency, producing 75 lm/W from an operating current of 350 mA.

This most powerful LED provide also an extremely pleasant warm white light, giving rooms a comfortable welcoming atmosphere. The 2 cm x 2 cm high-flux LED with lens provides 410 lm at 2700 K, 460 lm at 3000 K and 520 lm at 4200 K, in each case from an operating current of 700 mA. Their power input is 15 W. The OSTAR therefore operates at levels similar to those of halogen lamps and can be used for example in reading lamps.
