OLED Luminaire at Light+Building 2010 Fair by PPML at OSRAM booth
PPML S.r.l. and OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH will present two integrated OLED technology demonstrators at the Light+Building 2010 fair. The demonstrators will be shown at the OSRAM booth A70 in the hall no. 2. The lighting fair will take place from April 11th - 16th, 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany. The OLED luminaires, born from the concepts presented during the latest OLED Design Contest, use nearly 100 OLED lighting panels varying from standard ORBEOS™ to transparent OLEDs.
PPML will publicly present two OLED prototypes, integrating OSRAM OLED lighting technology. Both of the demonstrators have been derived from concepts received under an OLED Design Contest and each presents distinct characteristics to highlight the sensational OLED lighting properties.
The first luminaire, the “mOvement” concept presented by the designer Marco Pezzoli, opens the possibility, by using a modular cell, to create personalized lighting scenarios, thanks to an extremely flexible mechanical and electrical connectivity solution. This approach grants an easier market entry the due to its possibility to customize the final number of OLED devices resulting in a final luminary tailored to the user’s needs. The booth hosts a system composed of 90 OSRAM ORBEOS™, forming a luminous wall divider to address retail stores and museums for the exhibition of products and art objects under a non-conventional lighting scenario.
The second design object, “o-Frame,” a concept from designer Federica Del Ponte, uses a rectangular-shaped transparent OLED in a luxury objects showcase. The transparent light source allows one to look inside the box while switched off, in turn providing an exceptional light setup, in combination with LEDs, once turned on. Moreover, the showcase has been designed to be used both in vertical and horizontal positions in order to offer the best visual experience of the objects inside. Last but not least Li-ION powered electronics and a Micro-USB port enable cordless use of the showcase while providing a flexible recharging system.
Two additional prototypes for general lighting and mood lighting applications are expected by the end of the third quarter of 2010 in order to complete the CombOLED technical demonstrators set.
The decision to explore, in the last five years, multiple areas as candidate applications for the OLED lighting technology, has given PPML the possibility to interact with the leading advocates in this field becoming a potential reference for next lighting revolution.
