More than 150,000 MULTILEDs from OSRAM turn the Aspire Tower, the tallest building in the capital of Qatar, into a massive video screen.

Rising over 300 metres into the air, the Aspire Tower was built for the 2006 Asian Games to become the landmark of Doha, its design resembling that of an Olympic torch. The tower's facade is covered in wire mesh. At a height of approx. 70 metres, a total of 156,500 LED nodes of iColor Flex SL strands from Color Kinetics were woven through the material and fitted with MULTILEDs from OSRAM to form an 8 metres cylindrical video screen. Initially used for live broadcasts of the 2006 Asian Games, its over 1,000 square metres are used today for videos, advertising and banners.

MULTILEDs from OSRAM contain three chips in red, green and blue. Each of these chips can be controlled individually to produce 64 million colours through additive RGB colour mixing. These coloured light sources are suitable for large-format screens as installed on the Aspire Tower and for high-resolution video screens in sports stadiums. The small light sources and the flexible strands can easily be retrofitted. MULTILEDs are also used for backlighting displays and for facade illumination.
