Audi all-road concept study with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' LEDs
Full power

At this year's Detroit Motor Show, Audi AG presented an all-road concept study based on a newly developed four-litre 286 bhp V8-TDI. This power packed vehicle features high-power LEDs from OSRAM in all the major areas. LEDs are used for example for all the instrument lighting. The indicator lights, brake lights and rear light clusters all have rapid-response LEDs. Numerous Power TOPLEDs give the vehicle an unmistakeable look. The light is injected into optical waveguides from side-mounted LEDs so that special effects can be achieved.
Apart from the innovative nature of the lighting and its modern appearance, there are technical benefits of using semiconductor light sources, most notably their efficiency, small size, intense colour, very short reaction times and of course their long life.
LEDs can also be found at the front of the vehicle - in the fog lights and in the daylight running lights. There are ten Golden DRAGON LEDs mounted behind the clear-glass cover of the front headlights. These high-power LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors have an output of 40 lumen as standard, twice as high as normal. They are also certified for a maximum permitted current of 500 mA. A special reduced-aging resin prolongs the life of the white Golden DRAGON to more than 50,000 hours. The material can withstand harsh ambient conditions such as extreme temperatures between -40°C and +100°C or tropical humidity up to 85%. What's more, the LED spotlights already comply with the RoHS Directive.
