ADAM Award in Gold for OSRAM LED trade fair booth

“Gebautes Licht” (Constructed Light) impresses jury and visitors

At Electronica 2008 OSRAM Opto Semiconductors presented its products and in particular the OSRAM brand in a highly effective way at its eye-catching award-winning booth. The coherent concept certainly impressed the jury. For “Gebautes Licht” (Constructed Light) it presented OSRAM Opto Semiconductors with the ADAM Award in Gold, one of the most prestigious awards for branding and trade fair presentations in Germany.

“We shape the future of light”- that’s the motto of the semiconductor specialist and at the same time a promise. The clear and simple idea for the booth comes from Dirk Bachmann-Kern of bachmann.kern & partner architects in Solingen: A brilliant white booth with accents in the corporate orange of OSRAM, enclosed by a black shell with elliptical openings. They look as if spotlights are announcing a headline act. The fascinating interplay between light and color attracted huge numbers of visitors and at the same time communicated the fully integrated corporate identity of OSRAM. And behind this attractive spectacle of course are the light sources of the future – LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors.

Cool light, even for the hottest parties and shows
Despite the bright lights none of the visitors or the employees on the booth felt the heat because the thermal load from LED lighting is negligible in comparison with that from conventional light sources. And this is good news not only for trade fair booths – stage shows and other such events will benefit from this cool light. LEDs come in a wide range of light colors. On the booth for example, different areas were equipped with LEDs in various white ones to suit different purposes. Cold white LEDs were used where high levels of concentration were needed, whereas warm white LEDs bathes the seating areas in a pleasant relaxing light. And if you need colored effect lighting you should look no further than MultiLED. Three individual chips in this multi-chip LED can be controlled to produce mood lighting in any light color. In a stage play for example each scene can be presented in light of a different color.

The light sources themselves are so small that they can be hidden anywhere, depending on the particular design requirements. However they are powerful enough to present any scene, any stage and any exhibit in the right light. Vibrant reds, which are characteristic of Ferrari or Alfa Romeo, are displayed to great effect for example by a high red component in the light. And blocks of ice for cool drinks look even icier in bluish light. Whatever the message, it can be made more powerful by using appropriate LED light.

Semiconductor light sources offer high color saturation and are much more efficient in lighting systems than conventional light sources which have to use color filters to create colored light. And when the trade fair, stage show or sales display is over, these cool light sources can be quickly packed away without having to wait for them to cool down. And they are robust enough to withstand subsequent transportation without any problem.

With its exclusive booth Electronica, OSRAM has shown what can be achieved with innovative lighting technology, and together with bachmann.kern & partner has won not only the ADAM Award but also the iF Communication Design Award, the Red Dot Communication Design Award and the American Exhibit Design Award.

It will be fascinating to see what OSRAM Opto Semiconductors does for its next trade fair.
