New OSLON products for single- and double edge lit LCD - TV backlights
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors adds two new products to its OSLON portfolio, the ultra white (UW) and the multi white (MW) OSLON MX. These power LEDs are particularly suited for light guide based display backlight applications like in monitors and LCD TVs.
These high brightness LEDs in the 0,66W class with the dimensions of 3 x 3 x 1,6mm³ are designed for improved light incoupling from one side or two sides into backlight light guides. The combination of newest surface emitting ThinGaN chip technology and a special outcoupling lens provides up to 15% higher light output compared to flat surface LEDs in the comparable power class. The wide radiation angle of the lens of 125° allows additionally very thin bezels by reducing the light-mixing area of two adjacent LEDs to a minimum. All this improves the brightness and color uniformity in the light guide and results in coupling efficiencies of up to 87% (LED-chip out to available light in the light guide).
The OSLON LEDs are designed to meet highest lifetime requirements. With their ceramic base, silicone lens material, the chips and the best in class phosphors, they provide their light for more than 100,000 hours. This makes the LED also a perfect match for long-life displays as used in signage applications or professional monitors.
Same as the other products of the OSLON family, these two latest additions are fitted with a chip technology that owns higher light output linearity over current than standard volume emitting chips. Thus they are ideal for pulse width modulation (PWM) driving of backlights, which enables higher picture quality at 2D and permits 3D applications.
The “multi white” version enables high color gamut of up to 102% sRGB (CIE u´v´) at an efficacy of 64lm/W. The brighter “ultra white” version has an efficacy of 75lm/W (at 200mA) while reaching a 99% sRGB color gamut, depending on the LCD color filter set. Both LEDs are supporting with these features truly brilliant images on display panels
