ORBEOS, the first OLED light source (CDW-031) from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has a very low profile, weighs very little and emits warm white glare-free light. It has now been joined by a sister product (CMW-031) which has a reflective surface instead of a matt one. Both are round, have a diameter of almost 80 mm and are providing a boost to the market for high-quality functional lighting. Initially they will establish themselves in premium segments, including modern architecture, hotels, restaurants, offices, designer boutiques and high-end residential. The reflective wafer-thin warm white light source can be used as mirrors or partitions. In designer luminaires they can create completely new effects. They can be used as part of a major lighting installation wherever a high-class mirror effect is required.

At just 1.8 mm thick, the new ORBEOS has an even thinner profile than the first model. The reflective surface gives it a shimmering appearance. At 670 cd/cm² the luminance is slightly lower than that of the matt version, and its life is the same at 5000 hours. It opens up so many opportunities for luminaire designers. Both types can be switched on and off with no delay, can be infinitely dimmed and do not place a high load on the thermal management system.

They will be premiered at the Light+Building fair (April 11 to 16, 2010) at the OLED booth in the “LichtKunstLicht” installation.
