The package is an important advance because it allows large LED chips to be packed densely together with a high degree of precision. It achieves a high light density and transports heat away through the base extremely efficiently. Many of the attractive applications of the LEDs would be impossible without these properties. The light density of the light source is the limiting parameter wherever light is fed into an optical system. OSTAR LEDs are therefore particularly suitable for applications requiring high brightness over a small area, such as automobile headlamps and IR night vision systems, mini-projectors or desk lights.
