"Fast LEDs for polymer optical fiber communication at 650nm", Dr. R. Wirth

Data rates above 250 MBit/s via polymer optical fiber (POF) require specially designed light emitting diode (LED) chips. Because of the absorption minimum of the POF, the red wavelength region around 650 nm is of special interest. LED chips in this region comprise active regions out of the AlGaInP material system.

27. - 28. September 2005 Darmstadt, Germany
International Symposium on Automotive Lighting, ISAL 2005
"Concepts for Backlighting LCDs with LEDs", Josef Hüttner

Many applications in automotive interior lighting are powered by LED´s. Increasingly this is also true for full color liquid crystal displays e.g. in navigation systems. The requirements refer to high luminance and best color- and brightness-uniformity which can be realized by direct backlights or by implementation of lightguides. Different LED types are available to suit these applications. Goal of the article is to summarize the approaches based on their advantages and disadvantages regarding power dissipation, Uniformity and technical feasibility as well as an economical analysis.

18. - 22. September 2005
ISCS2005, Rust, Germany
"In-situ monitoring of MOVPE growth with Reflectance Anisotropy Spectroscopy in an industrial used multi wafer reactor", C. Krahmer

Modern optoelectronic devices such as AlGaInP LEDs consist of multiple layers and many different materials. The epitaxy requires constant control of a number of sensitive parameters, e.g. doping and ordering. Reflectance anisotropy spectroscopy (RAS, also called RDS) as an in-situ tool suitable for gas phase conditions.

"GaN based light emitters", Dr. V. Härle

Over the last couple of years high brightness LEDs went through a huge variety of modifications. Todays LEDs compete and outperform conventional light sources like incadenscent bulbs and halogen lamps. This gain in performance enables the market entrance for new lighting applications. Efficiencies of 50lm/W have been reached by various designs.
