Expertise

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors stands for extensive expertise in Research and Development, chip production and packaging - everything is under one roof.
In the entire spectrum of semiconductor technologies, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors holds more than 3000 patents. A large portion of those cover technologies for industrial production of LEDs and lasers based on Indium Gallium Nitride and Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide.
As an OSRAM subsidiary, the company uses the synergy of a world-wide company. As a manufacturer of fluorescent lamps, OSRAM has gained several years of experience with converter materials. These phosphors are required in order to create white light for single chip technologies. Additionally they are also used in the manufacture of LEDs in Color on Demand. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has accumulated the necessary know-how for the use of phosphors in LEDs and holds more than 170 related patents worldwide. Over the past several years, the company has built up a strong patent position and takes legal measures to protect them.
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors also assigns licenses to international companies. These licenses primarily deal with the creation of white light by means of conversion. In addition to a patent cross license agreement with Nichia and Philips Lumileds, licenses were awarded in recent years to Rohm, Everlight, Samsung, Lite-On Technology, Vishay, Harvatec, Lednium, YaHsin, Toyoda Gosei and Avago, just to name a few.
