The holistic energy concept we use in manufacturing LEDs was developed in several stages from 2000 - 2008 for the opto chip production plant and is also used in our sister plant in Penang.This innovative approach combines the location's various energy supply and removal systems throughout the entire process. This integrated system harnesses apparently useless waste heat from a range of manufacturing processes and naturally available cold air from the environment in the winter months. Heat and cold are provided for direct use by the various consumers instead of external energy depending on the season.

Excess process heat is also transformed into valuable cold during the summer. Not only does this conserve resources, it also reduces costs and goes beyond legal requirements. The energy savings are considerable: 13 Mio kWh natural gas (approximately 1,2 Mio m³), 4,5 Mio kWh electricity or 5200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions according the German Federal standards.
